Frequently Asked Questions
What was the hardest part about doing your search?
Every search is different. There isn’t an exact recipe that fits everyone’s search. I had to use different ingredients to get the result I wanted. For me, it was generating new ideas and carrying the confidence to try new things. It was important to take the disappointments gracefully and not beat myself up. Then, to keep going.
Why did you want to search for your biological family?
My parents never hid the fact that I was adopted. I have always had a burning desire to know where I came from. I’m often asked if it’s because I wasn’t raised in a ‘good’ home. That couldn’t be any further from the truth. I am grateful to my parents and the upbringing they provided for me. My parents were always supportive of my desire to search.
What did you learn from your search?
That hard work does pay off. Perseverance has its rewards. Besides learning the circumstances surrounding my adoption, I learned more about who I am and how my parents helped develop some very important morals within me.
Why did you write Search?
I never intended to write a book. In fact, it was a few years before I realized that I really did have a story to share in addition to leaving a written legacy for my family. I am not an expert, and I certainly do not want to give the impression that I have all the answers, but in all honesty, if there is anything in the book that helps one person, then I feel it has a second purpose.
